ABOUT KRice
ARTIST BIO
KRice is a Washington, D.C.-based contemporary artist whose mixed-media practice explores the multiplicity of the human experience – the many identities, emotions, contradictions, memories, and internal dialogues that can exist within a single person and a single moment.
Working primarily through bold figurative imagery, abstraction, layered faces, expressive mark-making, and saturated color, KRice creates works that invite viewers to look beyond what is immediately visible. Recurring imagery – including eyes, overlapping features, fragmented figures, symbols, and unexpected juxtapositions – reflects her fascination with the complexity of perception and the many versions of ourselves we carry simultaneously.
Her practice is informed by spirituality, music, mindset, human connection, travel, and an ongoing curiosity about consciousness and the unseen forces that shape how we experience ourselves and one another.
Based in Washington, D.C., KRice continues to develop a multidisciplinary practice encompassing painting, mixed media, dimensional work, and select commissioned works.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am fascinated by multiplicity – the idea that we are never just one thing.
We can be powerful and vulnerable. Certain and questioning. Joyful and grieving. Seen and unseen. We carry memories, identities, desires, contradictions, and entire internal conversations that the outside world may never know exist.
My work explores those layers.
Faces overlap. Eyes multiply. Figures emerge, disappear, and sometimes compete for space. Color, texture, symbols, words, and spontaneous marks become a visual language for the complexity I see in the human experience.
My practice is also deeply influenced by spirituality, music, mindset, energy, and the relationship between our inner and outer worlds. I am interested in what exists beneath the obvious – the space between what we show and what we feel, what happens to us and how we respond, and who we have been versus who we are becoming.
I don’t necessarily want to tell the viewer what to see. I want the work to create recognition, curiosity, discomfort, joy, memory, or conversation.
I want my art to knock at your soul’s door.
